The Paleo Diet has taken over as a huge trend for weight loss promoting a healthy lifestyle. If you are one of those people who follow food blogs you can’t miss it. Paleo Lunch Box ideas are all over the internet. A Paleo Diet or Paleolithic Diet is based on eating foods that our ancestors ate which are supposed to prevent excessive weight gain and modern day illness.
And while this might sound like a decent idea, do not go and start packing your Paleo Lunch Box just yet. Extreme diets can be tricky to pull off and you really need to do the research before going on one. Eliminating certain foods out of your diet can leave a deficiency which could be actually bad for you and backfire. Here are some things you need to consider first.
1. No beans or grains
This one is first on our list and with right. Excluding beans or grains from your diet can lower your energy and it is especially bad for vegetarians. Remember that no beans and grains means no bread, rice, cereal, pasta, bagels, crackers, peanut butter, soy milk… and the list goes on. Not only are these foods good for you, but it can be dangerous to avoid them completely. No beans and grains means lowering you vitamin B intake and can have direct effects on your health.
2. No dairy
A Paleo Lunch Box cannot contain any dairy products. Yes, you did read that right, any dairy product. And while the Paleo Diet is about eating clean, unprocessed foods, its benefits can become harmful in the long run. Most people get their daily calcium intake from dairy products such as milk, cheese and yogurt. Cutting that out of your lunch box can cut your calcium intake drastically. Cutting calcium intake can make you prone to tooth and bone density.
3. Too much meat
The last thing you have to consider is that we are not cavemen. We do not go hunting for our food and we have many new findings about eating healthy and organic today from which we benefit greatly. The paleo diet has a lot of meat so packing up a paleo lunch box can increase your intake in saturated fats which we all now is bad for you. Eating meat every day can affect your cholesterol and will exceed your daily protein intake.
Other thing you might want to consider is that in Paleolithic period the human life span was considerably shorter than today. So eating paleo clean might not be the best option for you. Sure it might have some benefits for temporary weight loss but consider researching alternatives to it just so you can avoid the long term health issues. After all eating healthy scarcely means extreme dieting.
